Skin needling/ micro-needling/ cit

It is a minimally invasive procedure that aims to treat scar tissue, lax skin, wrinkled and large pores by increasing collagen production.

It sounds scary since it involves using needles to puncture micro-holes on the skin, but the needles are very fine and short, and it is mildly uncomfortable, but it is a quick procedure and worth the minimal pain ( in my opinion).

The advantage of this procedure greatly outweighs the disadvantages.

How does skin needling work?

It works by making controlled micro-injuries in your skin, which your body will then heal while producing new fibroblast cells which in turn produce more collagen – more collagen production produces smoother, firmer, and younger-looking skin.

Which skin conditions can be treated with skin needling?

All skin types and colors can be treated except active acne. It is a great procedure to improve the appearance of fine lines & wrinkles, skin tone, and texture, reduces pigmentation and acne scarring and it can even improve the appearance of stretch marks.

What happens during a skin needling treatment?

We begging the treatment by taking before and after photos, then we deep cleanse the skin, followed by applying serum to target your skin concerns, we then perform the skin needling treatment with a special skin needling pen, Dermapen, which uses an automated stamping motion to create controlled injuries with tiny needles. The treatment takes about 20 to 30 minutes.

After the needling, we apply a soothing mask to target your skin concerns which will penetrate more deeply into the skin resulting in greater looking skin.

Does skin needling hurt?

The treatment is fairly comfortable, but you may feel some tiny pinpricks, as some areas of the face are more sensitive than others, but it is a tolerable procedure.

Do we numb the skin prior to Skin needling?

We do not numb the skin prior to any skin needling treatments except when we treat acne scarring or stretch marks, as we need to penetrate the skin deeper. For these cases, we require that you apply numbing cream 20 minutes prior arriving to at your skin needling appointment.

What’s the downtime of skin needling treatment?

Generally, downtime is about 1-3 days, your skin may look like you have a sunburn, it will feel tight, dry, swollen, sensitive, and itchy 3-5 days your skin will start to feel normal, swelling should subside, some possibility of peeling and/ or flaking.

You just need to ensure you cleanse your skin daily, keep moisturizing/hydrating your skin, use SPF daily, drink lots of water and keep away from the sun.

Why choose skin needling over other collagen-boosting procedures?

Lasers, Co2, and Fraxel lasers have the risk of causing hyperpigmentation because they use heat to produce results and take longer to heal the skin.

Is Skin Needling/ Microneedling for everyone?

Skin needling/ Microneedling is not for clients who suffer from active acne breakouts, open wounds, cold sores, psoriasis, or eczema.

If you are on blood thinners or have a history of keloid scars, you should consult your doctor prior to having this procedure.

Otherwise, this procedure is perfect for anyone that wants an overall improvement to their skin.

Is there a difference between Skin Needling/ Microneedling and dermarolling?
  • There is a huge difference between Skin needling and dermarollers.
  • Skin needling is the name of the treatment whereas dermaroller is the device used for skin needling.
  • Dermaroller was the first device used for Skin needling/ Microneedling.
  • Dermaroller has specific needle lengths surrounding a wheel, which is able to roll over the skin.
What is the difference between dermaroller and Dermapen?

Dermapen and Dermaroller are both a form of micro needling which is a form of collagen induction therapy. The Dermaroller device has been around longer than the Dermapen. The Dermapen is an updated electronic version of the Dermaroller which is rolled by hand.

The skin needling pen / Dermapen can be set to specific skin depths, taking away the chance for human error that can come from dermaroller.

Dermapen offers consistent treatments each time.

Can you do skin needling at home using dermaroller?

micro needling rollers use needles that penetrate the skin at an angle causing tears which lead to more side effects and therefore longer recovery time. Whereas The micro needling/ dermapen is held perpendicular to the skin so that the needles penetrate the skin vertically causing no tears only perforating the skin to cause a trauma effect without damaging the skin.
