WHAT IS A FACIAL TREATMENT AND HOW DOES IT WORK?

We all want our skin to be in its best state every day. One of the most sought-after treatments in the beauty industry today is a facial treatment. A facial is a skin treatment that cleanses pores, exfoliates away dead skin cells, nourishes the skin, promoting a clean, clear, hydrated complexion. Facials are performed by a licensed aesthetician or a dermal therapist.

It is recommended to have a facial at least once per month to maintain skin healthy and younger! Well, not everyone is familiar with the process of a facial treatment. THE PROCESS

Every facial should begin with a consultation with your aesthetician or dermal therapist.

This process is important to find out what type of facial should be performed on your skin. You will first fill out a consultation form where you’ll answer questions about your skin concerns, your medical history, your lifestyle, and the products you are currently using.

Once you have completed the form, the aesthetician will cleanse and analyze your skin to find out what your skin type is and what concerns need to be addressed, and will then suggest which facial would be most beneficial to your skin, depending on the skin type/conditions and your main concerns.

Exfoliation

  1. Using cleansers clear up any oil excess build-up for healthier and smoother skin
  2. Cleansers sweep away dry and dead skin cells, revealing a fresh layer of skin for a natural glow.
  3. It also helps in stimulating blood circulation and in boosting blood flow to your face for glowing skin.
  4. Cleansers help in making your skin look younger and help fight any signs of aging.
  5. Most importantly, it helps your other skincare products penetrate properly into the skin.

Exfoliation can be performed physically or chemically. Physical exfoliation mainly relies on the manual or mechanical removal of dead skin cells. While chemical exfoliation breaks down the bonds that hold the dead cells together, making it easier to remove these cells. Depending on your skin type and condition, your aesthetician will suggest either physical or chemical exfoliation. Either of the two procedures will be greatly beneficial for a healthy clean and clear skin, improving your skin tone and texture.

 Extractions

This process is commonly done to clear individual pores that have become clogged with excess oil or dead skin cells, which may lead to blackheads, whiteheads, and acne. Aestheticians will perform the extractions either by hand or using a special metal tool.

Massage

A facial also typically includes a massage on the face. The benefits of a facial massage is that it increases blood flow, improving lymphatic drainage, relieves muscle tension, and brings back that glow to your skin.

Masks

Your aesthetician will then apply a mask suitable to your skin type and condition. If you have oily skin, the aesthetician uses a clay-based facial mask that absorbs excess oil or if you have a dry skin type, they would use a hydrating facial mask. Most facials also include the use of facial serums, moisturizers, and sunscreen. These products are selected according to your skin type and condition.

HOW LONG?

Most facial treatments performed in clinics take at least 30 to 90 minutes depending on the type of facial required. Basic Facials help to maintain the skin and are great for a quick pick-me-up treatment while Advanced and Cosmetic facials target skin concerns and work on improving most skin conditions.

You have to make sure that the exfoliants you use are fit to your skin type and condition. Here are the benefits of exfoliating:

  1. It helps to fade age spots by removing dead, dry skin cells that contain pigment.
  2. It unclogs pores, releasing built-up oils on your skin.
  3. Exfoliation reduces pore size and the appearance of acne scars, improving skin texture.
  4. It renders fine lines and makes wrinkles less visible.
  5. It also allows for better absorption of skin care products such as moisturizers, serums, acne treatments, and more.
BENEFITS OF FACIAL TREATMENTS

Acne Scars

Professional facial treatments work to even your skin tone and texture, which makes scarring from environmental stresses and acne scars less visible. These treatments also prevent further acne scarring as it reduces breakouts.

Wrinkle Reduction

Facial treatments such as HIFU, Radio Frequency, Micro-Needling, Oxygen Fusion, Microcurrent or Anti-Ageing facials assist in the stimulation of collagen and elastin production, which restores skin cells defending against wrinkles.

Unclogged Pores

Facial treatments such as Microdermabrasion, Hydrodermabrasion, Enzyme Peels, and Beauty Peels assist in the removal of the top layer of the skin, removing dead dry cells, leaving the skin clearer and smoother, which allows a more evenly textured skin to come to the surface.

Oil, dirt, and dead skin cells clog up your pores, causing them to be more visible to the human eye. Regular facial treatments with extraction to decongest, clean and clear your pores is necessary. Unclogging your pores helps your skin to breathe and to prevent congestion and acne breakouts.

There are several benefits in using toners and some are as follows:

  1. Toners help in minimizing the appearance of pores.
  2. It helps protect your skin by restoring pH balance..
  3. It temporarily firms and tightens your skin.
  4. Toners are actually super refreshing to use.
  5. When you use toners, it actually soothes your skin.
  6. It helps to remove any residue left behind from cleanser or exfoliator.
  7. It aids the skin in retaining moisture.

Overall Appearance

Regular facials, at least once every 4-6 weeks is recommended in order to maintain your skin looking clean, clear, hydrated, and glowing. Home care is also important as your skin needs daily maintenance for a healthy, revitalized, and rejuvenated skin.

More Effective Daily Care

Once your skin is clean and cleared from clogged pores, your skincare products such as masks, ampules, serums, and moisturizers will be readily absorbed, hydrating the deeper layers of the skin.

Healthy Glow

Regular facial treatments can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage, acne, acne scarring, sensitivity, and more. This helps in making your skin more luminous and healthy-looking.

There is nothing better than feeling that you have your skin at its very best every day. Having regular facial treatments not only makes your skin look good, but it makes you feel good too! Nothing makes you feel more confident than beautiful skin!

  1. Moisturisers Prevent Dryness – whatever the type of weather you are currently in, it actually drains out moisture right out of your skin. So, using the best moisturizer that is fit for your skin, not only replaces the moisture that has already been lost but it helps prevent future loss of moisture.
  2. Moisturisers Slow The Signs of Aging – It is a well-known fact in the beauty industry that hydrated skin reduces the signs of aging. Moisturizers also help Fight Acne – When your skin gets dry, this sends a message to your glands to produce more oil which may clog your pores that can lead to a breakout.
